Last lesson

Last class, I made a presentation. I am not good at talking in front of people. But I could enjoy my presentation because I had prepared for it well. I improved my slides using many pictures in order that the audience can understand my topic easily. Also I could make more eye contact with the audience than practice in the previous class. However, I found that there were two more things I need to improve. The first point is a gesture. I tried, but it was not enough. I often did not pay attention to it. Second, I forgot several words such a name of statue, place and data. It was regrettable for me because I had researched them well.
In winter term, I will be careful about these things and practice my presentation well.

Lesson 6

Last class, I practiced making a presentation about Malaysia. There are a lot of things which need to be improved. First, I need to research and explain more fully and clearly. My knowledge is insufficient to make an audience understand. It was not a presentation, but just a reminiscence. Second, I should make slides with more pictures and information. Also, it is necessary for me to talk more  plainly with eye contact. I try to make a presentation which someone without any background knowledge can enjoy and understand easily.

Lesson 5

Last class, I learned how to make good presentation. First slide is important to get audience attention. So, we should use a beautiful picture and type topic in large font, larger than 36 and color which is contrasted with background in the blank of the picture.
I had made bad slides which had too many words, but no picture before. But now, I know some techniques to make an attractive presentation. I would like to learn them more.

Lesson 4

Last class, I learned how to save videos, pictures and PDFs into Zotero. I had not known the IMDb, the database of movies and TV shows. It contains a lot of information about each movie and easy to use. So I would like to check it not only for the source for academic essays but also for my private interest.

I found that Zotero was very useful once more. It sometimes lacks published year and place. However, if I am careful about it, I have no worries about gathering sources and making works cited at all.

Lesson 3

I have used Zotero since I knew it at start-up program. But I had not known that we could save items on-line if we create an account. It helps me a lot because I usually stay at my grandfather’s house and use their computer twice a week. When I found good sources on their computer, I had to memorize or note the title or URL of them. It was a little trouble for me. Now I can search and save sources on any computer as convenient as mine.
I would like to know other functions of Zotero in order to utilize it efficiently. I look forward to learning about it more in the next class.

Library lecture

I learned useful databases for academic writing: Gale Virtual Reference Library and LexisNexis in last library lecture. I was surprised that an encyclopedia of GVRL explained things in detail. Because I had used only Britannica and Mypedia in my electronic dictionary, and they did not give long descriptions.

I had almost never referred to a newspaper before because it was hard for me to find an article related to my essay topic. But using LexisNexis, I can search for it easily. It is really helpful!

I would like to use these databases efficiently so as to make my essay better.

Lesson 2

I have learned that I should be careful when I use google form to do a survey. Each response is anonymous, so I am not able to distinguish whose answer this is. But I need to think about the subject of my research, what type of people I want to study.
Awesome Screenshot is excellent! It was too much trouble for me to open the paint soft when I wanted to save a screenshot. I wished I could save and edit it in one window. Awesome Screenshot is helpful and easy for me to use a graph, chart and picture in my essay.

Lesson 1

Last class, I used Mac for the first time. I am a windows user and had never seen the actual Mac before, so I did not know how to turn on it.

I was interested in the google form. We can make many kinds of surveys easily. However we should be careful when we use the responses as primary sources of the essay. For example, if someone surveys only his or her sectionmates, a denominator is too small. If they link a survey to SNS such as facebook or twitter, there may be some people answered questions half for fun.

I would like to improve my computer skills and make use of them for my learning.
